In 2019, Duques Hall at George Washington University underwent a complete floor demolition and renovation. The renovation project included demolition of existing furnishings and carpeting and constructing a new glass storefront office, conference room, and hallway on the fifth floor.
Mid Atlantic Contracting replaced all of the building’s MEP at Duques Hall (mechanical, electrical, and plumbing) systems during the renovation project. Additionally to the plumbing and electricity, structural modifications and reconfiguration of the HVAC ductwork, life safety upgrades to the fire suppression sprinkler system, and fire alarm system testing were included in the upgrades.
Mid Atlantic Contracting (MAC) is honored to have the opportunity to work together with Rashid Architects on this project.
Mechanical, electrical, and plumbing engineering is known as MEP. A building’s habitability is determined by the buildings’ resiliency, durability, and efficiency among these three technical fields. As a result of the high degree of interdependency between MEP installations, they are usually designed together. Combining HVAC, electrical, and plumbing systems also prevents equipment location conflicts – conflicts are common when mechanical, electrical, and plumbing systems are designed separately. The team at Mid Atlantic Contracting works ahead of the project to determine MEP engineering, ensuring all safety requirements and codes are followed.
Commercial Office storefronts were installed on the Duques project to build a conference room. The glass walls that enclose entrances are called storefronts. The glass storefront is the entryway or façade of a commercial or industrial building, usually consisting of a large display window located on the exterior. It is usually found on the façade or entrance of retail stores, offices, and conference rooms. The purpose of a storefront inside a commercial office is to attract visual attention to a business office.
